Another Bush lie exposed; soldier who appeared with President never leaves Tikirt compound.

posted Friday, 14 October 2005

George Bush continues to lie and pass off propaganda as objective news as his polls continue to plummet in the face of bad news. Today, Bush staged a press conference with Corine Lombardo, a soldier serving in Tikirt, one of the most dangerous places in Iraq. But Lombardo is not a reliable witness when she claims that we have captured 50 terrorists and detained thousands more. As The Village Voice exposed, she lives a sheltered life inside the Tikirt compound. She never leaves the compound; her job is to conduct reporters around the camp.

Lombardo, as reported by David Axe, a reporter for the Voice, never deals with the soldiers who actually go out and do the dirty work of fighting one bloody battle after another with the insurgents:

There are tens of thousands of training officers and NCOs in Iraq who work with Iraqi forces on a daily basis; Lombardo is not one of them.

The White House says Bush consults with troops on the ground all the time. But who does he consult? Not the people actually doing the heavy fighting. The Voice article mentions that the military has a propaganda wing of people who never leave the bases and go fight the insurgents, but who act as propagandists for the White House. These people only see what they want to see and act as enablers for Bush's state of denial.

This is typical of the White House. Coincidentally, I mentioned the Armstrong Williams case. This is another attempt by the White House to pass off propaganda as news. They have taken the wrong lessons from the Iraq debacle. Instead of getting their act together, they decide they haven't done a good enough job of spouting propaganda. This is typical of the biggest PR presidency in the US.
