Donald Rumsfeld, hysterical Republicans conflate bloggers with terrorists.

posted Friday, 17 February 2006

This is smoking gun proof that George Bush thinks that peace activists are the enemy, not Bin Laden. Rumsfeld acknowledges what CNN has reported recently -- we are losing the war to an ever more sophisticated enemy. But Donald Rumsfeld refuses to accept any kind of responsibility for that. Instead, he has come out with a litany of excuses and hysterical behavior. He is the latest Bush administration figure to claim that peace activists are the real terrorists.

It is the job of a military person, especially those highest in command, to remain cool and calm under fire. But Rumsfeld did not. So, how can be trust Donald Rumsfeld to protect our country from Bin Laden and the real terrorists if he can't accept responsibility for his own disastrous decisions, lashes out at people exercising the Constitutional right to criticize the President under the First Amendment, and makes excuses in a hysterical manner? If Stanislav Petrov had exhibited that kind of hysterical behavior and career opportunism, we would all be dead now.

Petrov sacrificed his career to save the world from destruction on September 26th, 1983 when he correctly decided that the alarms going off in the Soviet nuclear silos were false. The Soviet Union was very angry at his decision; they did not advance him even though he had been one of the most promising officers in the Soviet military. Only now are people starting to recognize the enormous heroism of his decision.

On the other hand, we have a defense secretary entrusted with the defense of our country who blames others and would rather make excuses than actually protect our country.

Let me compare Rumsfeld with an American President entrusted with the protection of our country against terrorism. He made the right decision by recognizing that we were going nowhere, that our presence was doing more harm than good, and was only inflaming the anger of Muslims around the Middle East. Who was that President? None other than Ronald Reagan. As I remember, Ronald Reagan did not make any excuses for our failed peacekeeping mission in Lebanon or blame bloggers, liberals, and peace activists. He did not claim that times had changed and that the terrorists were fighting with better technology.

As for Rumsfeld's statement that the military was like a five and dime store, he has been Defense Secretary for the last six years. He has had six long years to figure out a way to modernize our military so that it would not be a five-and-dime store. But he did not. He cannot do anything about the capabilities of the people we are fighting. But he could have done something about the capabilities of our own military and work on its modernization from day one. Why is he all of a sudden interested in it in year six?

This entire administration is an oxymoron and a bilogical inslut to anyone with even a scintilla of a thinking brain.
